Marine, Offshore & Technical Solutions

Four operational gaps.
One desk that helps close them.

A vessel, project or site reaches the start line only when the people, parts, paper and perimeter are ready together. Start with the problem you recognise.

Marine & Offshore Professional Services

You do not need another inbox of officers. You need the watch kept.

The right person, proven for the operation and backed by a complete joining pack, keeps the watch covered and the vessel moving.

A certificate can be valid and the candidate can still be wrong

The vessel is due on-hire. A rotation has collapsed, a Dynamic Positioning trial is approaching, or the next campaign needs someone who understands cable-lay, subsea, ROV or diving support. The CVs arrive quickly. The confidence does not.

This is where a crewing problem becomes an operational one: an expired medical discovered late, a DP Limited certificate offered for a DP Unlimited requirement, too little time on the relevant vessel type, or a logbook that does not survive the client check. The officer may interview well and still be unfamiliar with the watch they are joining.

The wider market makes that pressure worse. The 2026 BIMCO and International Chamber of Shipping workforce report estimates a current global shortage of 39,100 STCW-certified officers, while ratings remain in surplus. Scarcity is concentrated where competence and responsibility matter most; another unfiltered list does not close that gap.

Readiness is a person, a watch and a complete joining pack

Holan starts with the actual operation. We check vessel type, DP context, role, joining window and client gates before matching personnel. Tickets such as STCW, Certificate of Competency, ENG1, OPITO and DP records are reviewed alongside right-to-work and relevant operational experience, not treated as interchangeable keywords.

That matters on OSV, PSV, AHTS, MPSV, CSV/IMR and DSV work, where the first watch can expose what the interview missed. IMCA’s current DP guidance makes the same underlying point: safe performance depends on competence, communication, vessel familiarity and preparedness for failure, not a certificate in isolation.

Holan can also connect the officer to the wider mobilisation: documentation, DP readiness, trials support and project coordination. We do not send a certificate and hope. We help send someone who has stood that watch, with the paperwork needed to get the vessel to the start line.

Marine & Industrial Procurement

The spare is useless if the certificate is missing.

Correct identification, verified compatibility, complete certification and coordinated delivery protect the window from the first RFQ.

The wrong item can arrive perfectly on time

A maker plate is difficult to read. The vessel is already in drydock. The OEM is quoting beyond the available window, and the RFQ thread still has not confirmed voltage, material, class requirement or the exact delivery point. Under pressure, a plausible match begins to look like progress.

Then the crate opens. The connector is different, the unit is the wrong revision, or the part fits but its material certificate and traceability do not. Air freight and expediting cannot recover a technical assumption made at the start. The item has moved quickly; the job has not moved at all.

Maritime procurement professionals describe the same recurring frustration: vague offers that omit firm lead time, dispatch location, delivery terms or the certificates enclosed. Wärtsilä Marine also warns that a part fitting today does not prove compatibility, traceability or predictable performance under operating load later.

A useful quotation answers the technical question first

Holan begins by tightening the RFQ. We establish the maker, model, part number, service conditions, electrical or mechanical specification, certification requirement, quantity and real delivery window. When OEM supply is required, we keep it OEM. When an alternative may be acceptable, we make the technical and documentary basis visible rather than quietly substituting it.

Our UK and European sourcing support is built for international projects where the final mile matters as much as the purchase order. Supplier response, inspection, paperwork, Incoterms and delivery to the quay or project location are coordinated as one requirement.

The result is straightforward: correct item, correct certificate, on the quay before the window closes. Holan is the desk to send the RFQ when the operational question is not simply ‘what does it cost?’ but ‘can we fit it, evidence it and use it?’

Technical & Project Support

Charter days do not burn at sea first. They burn at mobilisation.

One pre-mob pack and one coordinator keep people, parts, vendors and documents aligned from recap to on-hire.

Every party can be busy while the mobilisation remains incomplete

The owner has the vessel list. The charterer has another action tracker. Vendors are replying on separate threads, the lifting certificates are in a shared folder, and somebody believes the DP annual trials were already checked. The quay date is fixed; the evidence around it is not.

This is how mobilisation time disappears. RAMS do not match the worksite. A sling certificate has expired. The personnel matrix is missing a client approval. The vendor arrives without the right induction, or a procedure written ashore does not match the vessel as fitted. Each gap looks small until it blocks the next activity.

Working DP professionals repeatedly describe trials as a test of the complete redundancy concept: power, propulsion, control, sensors, procedures and the people responding to failure. IMCA guidance similarly stresses vessel-specific preparedness and clear stakeholder responsibilities. Readiness is a joined-up condition, not a collection of documents.

One coordinator must be able to see the whole start line

Holan structures the mobilisation around a pre-mob pack: personnel matrix and certificates, vendor list, DP readiness, lifting records, HSE documents, logistics and outstanding decisions. It becomes a working control point, not a folder assembled after the meeting.

We coordinate contractors and suppliers, follow technical actions, support vessel and project documentation, and keep the handover connected to the operational crew. Because Holan can also support the personnel and procurement streams, the coordinator is not limited to forwarding somebody else’s delay.

From recap to on-hire, the job needs one clear owner of the gaps between people, parts and paper. Holan provides that point of contact so the first week offshore is not spent repairing a mobilisation that looked complete on email.

Security Support Services

A yard gate is not a nightclub door.

Correctly licensed, properly briefed UK land-side personnel give the gate dependable cover that understands the site around it.

A valid badge is the start of the check, not the end of the brief

A contractor peak, outage, event or late change creates a gap at the gate. Cover is found quickly, but the officer arrives with the wrong licence type, no understanding of the lifting zone, or no clear escalation route. A staffing shortcut has become a site risk before the first vehicle enters.

UK security professionals regularly warn that door supervision, security guarding, close protection and stewarding are not interchangeable labels. The Security Industry Authority’s June 2026 inspection operation checked 450 licences and found suspected unlicensed activity, a counterfeit licence, a suspended licence and licence-condition breaches. Most officers were compliant, but the failures demonstrate why management oversight cannot stop at receiving a name for the rota.

Marine and industrial sites add another layer. An officer must understand induction, PPE, restricted areas, contractor movements and when normal access control becomes an HSEQ escalation. A generic nightlife deployment model does not automatically transfer to a live yard or mobilisation site.

The gate needs licence accuracy, briefing and dependable cover

Holan supports yards, mobilisation sites, offices, commercial premises and events with SIA-licensed personnel matched to the activity. We check the role, briefing, reporting line and cover requirement before deployment, including surge and subcontract support where continuity matters.

The standard is practical: the correct licence, a briefing the officer can repeat back, awareness of the working environment and a plan for a no-show. That gives facilities and HSEQ teams a security presence that supports the site instead of becoming another action to manage.

All security activities are provided in accordance with applicable UK licensing and regulatory requirements. This is SIA-licensed UK land-side security, not armed maritime security. When the requirement is a disciplined gate, site, corporate or event team, Holan is ready to take the brief.
